Our Christmas Eve Swedish smorgasbord with all the traditional foods, I'm actually hosting tonight for the first time! And then Swedish pancakes for breakfast on Christmas morning. My son still does that with his kids. Makes my heart so happy!
My dad and both grandfathers were all pastors, and we were always heavily involved in Christmas Eve church services — multiple, all day and into the evening. We’re also German, and Germans traditionally do gifts and parties on Christmas Eve rather than Christmas Day. So because of those two things, both sides of my family for generations has filled 12/24 with candlelight services and gift opening. But since that doesn’t leave time for a big feast (neither the prep nor the dining), food on 12/24 has always been cheese and crackers and Christmas cookies. Piles and piles of cookies. Growing up, the idea of coming home from that last service, taking off my itchy tights, and eating cookies for dinner while opening gifts… it’s maybe my happiest cluster of memories. So that’s what I recreated with my own kid. We do church all day and evening, then eat cookies and charcuterie for dinner and open gifts late at night. It makes me happy in my soul. On 12/25, we sleep in. :-)

How did it go this year?!
Stockings. Always loved stockings better than other gifts. We still do them even now. Big difference - items cost more than little kids trinkets.
