I'd say the classic hardboiled detective story (Chandler and Hammett, not Spillaine.).

Hammett for sure! Spillaine too raw?

Too sexist and cheesy.

History, non fiction, mysteries, and light hearted crime like Haissen writes.

Author Paul Doiron...adventures set in the woods of Maine with a rookie CO (conservation officer). Fiction with a few real locations, some Maine natural history and some forensics. Once you begin his books you can't put them down.

I love Historical romance, and it doesn't have to be "romantic" in the typical sense. Historical relationship would be a better description. Kate Morton, Diana Gabaldon, etc.

I love reading all of Ty Gagne’s books about the White Mountains, but a book I REALLY enjoyed was Stoner by John Williams. It was recommended by a bookseller at Gibson’s…and I can say I haven’t enjoyed a book so much in years!! I love biographies in general…nonfiction!

I preordered a book that arrived two days ago: "Murder by Cheesecake", which is a cozy mystery inspired by the classic Golden Girls sitcom. I haven't started it yet (finishing Sy Montgomery's "The Soul of an Octopus" first), but I expect it will become my guilty pleasure read for the spring.
