No CD players in cars because no one uses CD as their primary form of music any more. It's Spotify, a Podcast app or other such streaming options.
I tend to go with podcasts these day, personally, but I remember back when I was Uma's age, I had a very unusual play list. See my dad was an over the road truck driver. We didn't have a CD player either, they had not been invented. We also didn't have a cassette deck. We had an 8 track player! And my very first music purchase was made for that 8 track player in the form of Olivia Nuton John's "Physical". And it was purchased with S&H Greenstamps. But my "playlist" if you can call it that was names like CW McCall, Red Sovine, Minnie Perl, Jerry Reed, The Willis Brothers, and Del Reeves. If those names don't mean anything to you, I suggest you grab a box of tissues and search YouTube for "Roses for Mama", "Gidde up go" (and the sequel to learn the outher side of the story), "Little Joe" and Teddy Bear / "Teddy Bear's Last Ride". You will need those tissues, let me tell you.
S & H Greenstamps. You must be from the mid Atlantic states as I do not think they had them up here in NE. I obtained many things with those stamps. There was actually a store near my house in NJ.
Dad was based out of Missouri, but drove all over. He tried to avoid truck stops that gave out S&H Greenstamps, but sometimes it was all that was available. So he’d pay the extra nickel a gallon (or what ever it was) and give me the stamps. I collected enough to buy an 8 Track and that’s what I picked. Looking back I have to say “what was I thinking!”
Hooked up an older portable CD player in my newer car...that's fine but nowhere near the audio if it was hard wired...and the portable doesn't shut off when you shut off the car. It'll keep playing until the batteries are toast. Interviews with Uma sounds good and my favorite travelling tunes are "Best of Days of the New", Travis Meeks' band, Fabulous lyrics from a teenage singer/song writer.
Another vote for “Interviews With Uma” here! On the road, we mostly listen to podcasts, but we’ll also rip new CDs from our friends and listen to those. Looking at your photo, I have to say that’s one eclectic collection! I think you’ll find our music is more like Pentatonix than The Warning. 😁 Honored to be in your family road trip set list!
I think "Interviews with Uma" has a better ring to it. For our long drives, we listen to our Spotify playlists, classic rock and blues, primarily. However, when we drive through the mountains (White or Green), we lose our signal.
Have a great road trip & Thanksgiving! I just had to get a new radio/ CD player in my old Subaru! I also have a little Sirius radio receiver that I move back and forth between my two old Subarus! Got to have TUNES on long or not-so-long drives! Interviews with Uma! But either one!
We used to joke about Central NYS radio when we drove to Buffalo from Philly! And yes, CDs are no longer the norm for cars or for listening to music. Nowadays it’s just a phone, Spotify or YouTube and a portable speaker, or CarPlay for your mobile music experience. Kinda sad, since I have this Time Machine in our home office that consists of a wall of CDs 💿

One cannot do a road trip without the "Hey, let's stop there!". For long trips - books - Anything by Bryson, Lord of the Rings, Narnia.
For a trip that length: Moody Blues, Beatles, Springsteen, Arlo Guthrie
Safe travels & Happy Thanksgiving!
Interviews with Uma
The upside is that when she is a teenager she will rebel against you by listening to good music
LOL Bless your heart!
