Artists don’t have to be famous to be good. In fact, it’s kind of nice to have them be good and not famous, because it means you can generally afford tickets to their shows!
I asked Quinn if they're famous at school yet. She said they're all very low key about it, and the other students seem to be aware that there's a band in the school, but no one seems to know who's in it.
I hadn't heard of her before. Granted, I'm closer to your generation than Little Bean and don't have kids, but I did work at an amusement park over the summer, had coworkers in their twenties and thirties, always listen to music on the radio anytime I'm driving, and so I think (hope) I'm not totally out of touch. Anyway, she's not as famous as AC/DC. The park hosted a tribute band to them this fall, and not Melanie Martinez.
Haha, you make a good point. That's an interesting idea, though - what level of famous do you need to be to have tribute bands out there touring and playing your music!
I've wondered that. What about the song rights, too? The "Taylor Swift" at the park this summer sang a sort of medley. (Her show was only about 20-25 minutes long.) The Elvis impersonator sang full songs (I think, I'm not an expert on his music). I didn't see the AC/DC tribute. Mini Kiss was there (a group of little people who preform Kiss songs), but I know even less about their music.
Just saying it's been the same way since the creation of Music (notice the timeline with the bands listed), with children saying the parents just don't understand them. The twist at the end there is meant in a positive way. :)
It's a generation "follow along" thing as well. My favorite drummers ever are Buddy Rich & Louis Belson (the latter invented the double kick). On the other hand a favorite of many today is AreJay Hale of Halestorm fame or Mike Portnoy of Dreamtheater. Bottom line... follow what you like and what makes you happy.
Do I feel old? Had to look her up. You tubed also. Not very talented (nothing voice wise) and actually a bit disturbing. She had been around for awhile (video was 7 years old) Just do not get it. But, then again, there are a lot of things I do not get lately. Little Bean has great taste in music.
Sorry! Never heard of Melanie Martinez.
Ya have now!

So true! If she were a Swiftie, I'd be broke!

They'll know soon enough!
