I suppose, it’s fair to say that Little Bean and I started this musical journey before she was born.
In those later months of pregnancy, I’d play The Beatles or Bollywood, and we distinctly remember her reaction to Bob Dylan. I’d put my hand on her momma’s belly and crank “Blood on the Tracks” and Little Bean would kick and kick. In retrospect, of course, this could have meant she wanted us to turn him off!
Later, in her crib, we’d sing. As a toddler, we’d shout out “All you Need is Love” or her favorite “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da.” But really, up until the last - let’s say year or so - the music was mine, she just listened to it. But that’s changing now and that’s good.
She’s a rock and roll kid, for sure, I don’t think that’s going anyway. It’s still AC/DC over Taylor Swift. But now, I’m following her down the rabbit hole instead of the other way around.
On Saturday, we had a remarkable evening in Portland. I call it an evening, but the adventure was most of the day. Seeing the young, all female hard rock band, Plush, was something we had planned for months. The setting at Portland House of Music was intimate, a crowd of maybe 250. No railings at the stage. We were two of maybe ten VIPs the band played a song to. We ran into them on the street! The opening band dedicated a song to Little Bean. We made tons of new friends. It was something.
Over the course of the next few days, I’d like to tell that story if you’ll allow. Small pieces each day, just remarkable little happenings and some thoughts about it all. We wrote a similar series when we went to see The Warning last fall - you can read that four-parter here: The Warning Chronicles.
Music has been her latest passion, both playing and listening, and she’s been seeking and searching for music to call her own. I think she’s found it, and I’m all in with her for that. So, we’ll begin tomorrow and see where this story goes.
Will you join us? Horns in the air. Let’s go!

The ladies from Plush along with their entire team were great! I also had the pleasure of meeting the gentleman who runs Moriah's website and admins their Facebook page at the CT show. He was traveling with his wife from California to some shows on the East coast and had a history helping out the Warning as well.
