Yes, it makes perfect sense. When you're responsible for a place, everything is on you, bad or good. When your goal is to enjoy a space, all of that is somebody else's problem. And, just enjoying a space you're responsible for can be difficult.
In Allenstown where I grew up the library was right across the street. It was maybe half the size of yours and has not become any larger over the decades. My favorite things to peruse there were the periodicals which sadly today have faded into oblivion. As I loved being outdoors my favorites were "Outdoor Life" and "Field and Stream". I agonized that I couldn't catch fish the same size as was shown in those articles!!
Your post brought back such good memories of losing myself in the stacks. A much better experience than becoming roadkill on the Information Superhighway.
