Will and I had a similar conversation conversation about concerts the other night. I would love to see the Cyndi Lauper concert, but he says it’s too much money on the other hand. He’s willing to spend money to go see Trans-Siberian Orchestra Year after year. He says the tickets cost much less. I suggested if I bought one Cyndi Lauper ticket and went by myself it would cost the same as his two tickets for him and Luke to Trans-Siberian Orchestra. He did not agree that that was a good idea. I guess he thinks he’s missing out if he doesn’t go with me to see Cindy, so I guess I will miss Cindy this time around. Maybe I will catch on her on her next last last tour.

I think your idea was great.

The value line is a high bar in my eyes. How much do I enjoy the performer's work? Is seeing them worth the cost, time, and effort? The answer is usually no. That said, plays and musicals are more tempting to me than concerts.

I saw Willie Nelson in the late 80's and he was great. I saw Bob Dylan in the 80's twice. One time he was terrible, but the second show was with Tom Petty and it was great. (especially Petty) The tour coming up looks inviting, but not into crowds now at all. All these "old men" (and ladies), I just figure they have music in them, that is what they do, that is what they love - go for it. It must be hard to go from large venues to small ones. The most disappointing concert was we went to see The Doors, but the night before Jim Morrison was arrested in a Florida concert for indecent exposure, so it was cancelled. Now a days, it probably would not matter. LOL. The best concert I ever saw was Pink Floyd at the U of Pa. (saw Springsteen and E st band for 2 bucks at Le Garage Discotheque on LBI in NJ.)(he was not famous yet)

I have seen Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson touring together, with John Cougar, on the Minor League Ballpark tour years ago. Excellent show and I would love to see Dylan and Willie again. I know they're older but they are also the top of their profession.

Been to countless concerts, some memorable, sone not. Some established musicians were terrible but up and coming ones were really trying hard to build a fan base and usually ticket prices for newcomers is reasonable. A smaller venue with exceptional audio to me has the most value now no matter the cost. Some of the best blues artists thankfully prefer the intimate setting and that type of music is my favorite. Most every show I've attended had some value I've found but...the worse I ever saw was an Alice in Chains (yes I like rock too) show at the Portland (ME) Civic Center. It was all white noise in a hockey rink and bounced off the cement and steel walls...I left early.

At this point in my life, that bar is so high that I don't even look at concerts anymore. Crowds in general have always been hard for me, but now they send my anxiety through the roof. And if I were to pay for a concert ticket, it would be to hear the performer and not the thousands of off-key attendees around me. :)

I would pay to see Lightnin’ Hopkins, but he’s dead, so that’s out.
