What a fabulous post. It sits next to my copy of TL Huchu's "The Library of the Dead" which we will discuss at the library Speculative Fiction group Tuesday!

I had no idea that public libraries have a Library of Things!

Oh yes! Our library has a Ice Cream Maker, Bread Makers, cookie makers and baking pans, knife sharpener, stud finder, hot spots a telescope and lots of other neat things!

I need to look for the LoT at our local libraries!

As we sort through our grandparents' belongings, my sister and I have gathered a majority of their books--about six file boxes full, so far--and donated them to our town library. I hope they can put them to good use.

Do they have a book sale? Many of our donated books go toward our book sale!

They do! I noticed a rolling cart of books in an alcove near the front door that had a sale sign on when I was there a week or two ago. A few years ago (prior to the pandemic), they also had a small room downstairs with books for sale that I think was open once or twice a month. I don't know whether they still have that, though.

Can you loan things like you do with books? I would think many would like to look through a telescope but cannot afford to buy one. When a teacher, our science department hosted the NH Astronomical Society for an evening of telescope viewing. (donation was proceeds from selling popcorn). Lots of people came out for event.

Oh yes! Just like a book, you check it all out! In the case of the more expensive items like the telescope, you must sign a waiver, but we have tons in our collection. A lot of libraries do!
