Several years ago I led the funeral/memorial service for a man who was Smokey Bear for years and traveled the country doing presentations. Our service was in a field in Madbury NH and we had the current Smokey come out of the woods to salute the coffin before it went into the ground. It should have been "hokey" but, in fact, it was deeply meaningful. I'm not sure that many of my clergy colleagues would have let it happen but it meant the world to the family.
