The only clear memory I have of Halloween is going trick-or-treating for UNICEF with my little orange UNICEF box. One woman told me not to yell. (I was very excited about helping UNICEF.) Put a real damper on the day.
We always look forward to this day, when we can greet our neighbors and their kids with treats and praise for their costumes, and their tenacity for climbing our steep light of stairs for their rewards.
I remember very well going trick-or-treat in my suburb of Buffalo, often wearing my costume and mask over a snowsuit as we braved the cold nght. It's hard to be a scary skeleton (one of three masks my brother and I fought over each year - two of which were skull masks), when one looks like the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man.
Here's hoping that Bean is still up for Trick-or-Treats this year, as I'm sure these memories are as wonderful as the stories you shared with us today!
Your stories fill me with the gentle flame on a bonfire on Halloween night.
