I'm not sure this counts, but my first live show wasn't a concert; it was a performance of "The Nutcracker" ballet at The Palace Theater in Manchester. My little sister and I were taking ballet lessons at the time. My mom bought tickets for herself, her mom (my grandmother), my sister and me. I think I was about eight years old and loved the show. My sister was three, I think, and not as attentive. (She fell asleep near the end!)

We haven't taken Uma to Nutcracker yet, but she loved Circus Soliel!

I can’t judge you for listening to Donny Osmond unless I judge myself for the Osmonds album I had as a kid. I, too, was a fan of the Donny & Marie show, and whichever album it was (don’t remember anymore) came up in the Columbia House record club listings back when that was the only way I could find albums.

Music was always a part of my family, mostly singing. My dad loved show tunes, my mother loved jazz and swing. The younger of my two older brothers played loud late-50s music in his bedroom, my sister took me to the ballet and to see Chuck Mangione at Saratoga Performing Arts Center. I sang in the school choirs from 3rd grade on. And all these years later, Dan and I have published 4 CDs and one EP of our own original music, and are currently recording our next album. I hope Little Bean has a fabulous time! I know you will. :) I’m especially excited to hear what she thinks of Pentatonix -- I love them!

I love your perspective and was hoping some of my musician readers would pop up! I am, alas, a mere music lover - taking that leap to becoming a musician is a step I never took, though I did take guitar lessons for a while!

I, too, am/was a big fan of Donny! Member of the fan club, saw him twice in Boston in Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. But my first live concert was Scandal at a little theater in Concord in 1984. Still, in many ways, the best show I've ever seen, probably because of the nostalgia as much as anything. Unfortunately, my "crowd anxiety" now has stolen my desire to attend live concerts anymore. Looking forward to hearing about Little Bean's experiences!

Yay! Go Donny! You're the third person who popped up saying they saw him live and I'm jealous! I understand that anxiety, I'm prop overpreparing for taking Little Bean to these show.

I am so glad you are doing this with your daughter It's perfect! I have such great memories of classic rock concerts in my early days! My first concert was The Beach Boys...talk about an oldie but goodie. I also had the great experience of seeing Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels AND Wilson Pickett together in concert... You are so right about music being part of our growing up. I think it is wonderful that you are encouraging your daughter to follow her heart and feeling through a musical journey...
