There are more seniors on the road now than ever before. Some are easily confused, easily disoriented, most are good drivers. Try to remember for most of our (yes, our) lives there was nothing near the amount traffic then that exists today. Reaction times are slower, takes a little longer to make decisions. The last thing I want is to have to give up my driver's license so...have some patience.
This happened to me once but the lady was driving down one of the 2 lanes on the off ramp. I pulled in front of her blocking her access. She was waving me out of her way but I got out and told her she was getting on the wrong way. She couldn't turn around do I told her to get out and I'd turn her around. Turns out she couldn't stand without help and thankfully a gentleman stopped and drove her and her car to a safe spot followed by his wife driving his vehicle. I was so glad to have been in the right place at the right time. She was pretty shook up when she realized it.
I have been aware of this also. It seems every time I look at wmur someone is driving the wrong way even on the Highways? How do you drive on a highway the wrong way. Are more people just not aware of things? It seems to be happening with all ages and all genders so you cannot even narrow down the cause. I do not like to drive anymore.
It is no fun driving these days. I am always on the lookout for someone to cross the median or to hit someone’s bumper and send them spinning. Glad you are safe. Scary times for sure!
This is truly frightening. Until we moved here six years, ago, I had never heard of wrong way drivers on highways. Probably because CT has more traffic in general and it would be more apparent as soon as you tried to get on. But now I hear about it much too frequently. I don't know what the answer is ... bigger, brighter, more flashing signage??? I didn't like driving on the highways there because of all the traffic, but now I am worried about driving on the highways here.
Thank goodness you were there. The driver might have been unfamiliar with the area and distracted by his own thoughts. It's no excuse, but none of us are perfect. I'm embarrassed to admit it, but a few years ago, I was so distracted by money worries, I was in a Hannaford parking lot and ran a stop sign. After I parked, an older man chastised me for it right there in the middle of the lot. Now, to add to my financial anxiety, I wanted to die from embarrassment and shame. He wasn't wrong to call me out, but I wish he'd been a bit kinder about it.

Someone's guardian angel is working overtime.
