I am burdened with an abundance to write about!
An open house at Little Bean’s new school. Our incredible AC/DC adventure. The fantastic upgrade to the teen nook at the library. Chapter two of the fire tower book.
And my heart is so full over today’s amazing visit to the New Hampshire Renaissance Faire, where the little ladies dressed as mushroom cats and were literally overwhelmed by the support and enthusiasm of fair goers. I may end up writing a handful of stories on that.
But today, we focus on Brother Sylvan, otherwise know as Rochester, NH poet extraordinaire Ed Pacht. Ed has been a dear friend of the family and of Little Bean for many years, and has in fact written several poems about her and inspired by her. He’s the official poet laureate of our NH Rocks That Rock Guides and gave a reading at our book launch a couple years ago. He was the wandering Brother Sylvan at the Faire today and performed a welcome poem for the mushroom cats - character names Deborah and Crystal.
Like Day By Day here, Ed writes every day! Unlike Day By Day, he’s been doing it for decades. He is a kind, amazing soul and we’re so happy we got to meet up with him and honored that he recited a poem for the girls.
I’d like to reprint that Welcome Poem for you today:
From Brother Sylvan to the Mushroom Cats
Wouldst be a pirate or a knight,
perhaps a princess or a queen?
What is your delight?
That’s what I mean.
Just look around all through the Faire.
It may surprise you what we all wear.
As through these grounds you may roam,
it won’t be really much like home,
but ‘tis a place where all things change,
and you may find it very strange.
Let imagination freely rule -
no one there will call you a fool.
For it is Three Maples Renaissance Faire
and your wildest thoughts are welcome here!
I got a big kick out of Ed's poem.
As a staff member of the NHRF, I get to hear a new poem from Brother Sylvan each Saturday morning of fair. :) It's the highlight of my work day! I'm sorry I missed you; did you come Sunday? I was so busy!
