She’s poking around her craft area and pulls out some markers, pencils and construction paper the size of index cards.
“What are those for?” I ask.
She shrugs. “Signing. Maybe drawing. We’ll see.”
She’s preparing contingencies. Most likely by the time you’re reading this, Little Bean will be deep into her Cirque du Soleil day. How this all will play out is anybodies guess, and I’m sure that the marketing team at OVO isn’t entirely clear either.
After all, how many kid reporters will they have to deal with today?
My kid reporter has lined up a back stage tour, event presser and interview with several main members of the cast of this week’s upcoming show in Manchester. In particular, she’s interested in meeting the musicians.
I try to impress upon her the need for preparation AND flexibility. If you’re covering a story and things don’t go like you planned you can still be flexible enough to take the story in another direction.
But then again, I wasn’t doing event pressers when I was nine. So we’ll see.
Mainly, at these events - the VIPs and meet and greets and interviews - she gets by thanks to a mix of stubborn charm and humor.
In the upcoming days, bits and pieces or these stories will appear here and over at Manchester Ink Link so I hope you’ll join us. Join us for what, I’m not really sure. But whatever it is, it’ll surprise us just as much as you!
Meantime, Little Bean has found her camera and taken down her outfit for the day, the pink dress with all the cats on it and the light blue genie pants.
“How’s this?” she asks.
Perfect. It’s all perfect.
END NOTES: We hope you’ll join us and share these posts over the course of the next few days with anyone who enjoys music or theatre or Cirque du Soleil. We’ll have pics and interviews and maybe some video for you. We’re hoping to build out our subscription base as Little Bean takes a more active role in the story telling at Day By Day. Can you help us grow our community? We’d appreciate any support! See ya tomorrow!
