Does the northern lights look different to the naked eye than to your iPhone? Yup. But it’s still wonderful. Still worthy to look. Still a moment of grace and awe. Don’t let anyone tell you it isn’t.
Tomorrow, I’ll have a little story about the first time I saw the northern lights, but today we wanted to keep things simple.
Here’s the pic Little Bean took at the end of our well lit, crowded city street. Still startling. Still beautiful.
The term Aurora Borealis was coined by Galileo himself way back in 1619. He combined the named of the Roman Aurora, Goddess of the dawn, with the Greek Boreas, God of the cold north wind. Neat huh?
Anyway, that’s all for today. No need to get into solar wind and charged particles and disturbances in the magnetosphere.
Just look up. Find wonder. Email me your pics you took. See ya tomorrow!
