A short thought today, aimed primarily at my community in Auburn, my patrons.
Tomorrow, the town will hold its annual deliberative session, an opportunity for any Auburn resident to come out and debate and discuss anything having to do with Auburn’s yearly budget or any proposed warrant articles. Then in six weeks, the town will reconvene to vote on what was discussed tomorrow.
I always like to say that for most of the year, my bosses are my Board of Trustees. But tomorrow, I have to answer to everybody in town, all 6,000 of you.
If you come.
And I encourage you to. Why? Well, in general, because you should know what I and everybody else are planning on doing with your money. In particular - this year - because the library is asking town-folk to bond a warrant article that we’ll put to use in phase one of our expansion plans.
Important stuff, but I won’t go into detail here. As my board (and wife) often remind me, don’t talk so much.
But that’s one of my favorite parts about the job. It still feels remarkable to me - even after all these years - that I work in a library. An accidental librarian. So remarkable, in fact, that I really like talking about it. We have plans! There’s so much to do! We have the greatest staff of librarians in New Hampshire who want to help!
Just ask me. Come out on Saturday, or come into the library, and ask. I will literally talk to you until you have to make us excuses to go home. Really!
Let’s put it to the test. Ask me!
Good luck tomorrow!!
