Yesterday’s post on my presidential sightings received far more attention than I expected, owing I suppose to it dropping on Presidents Day. You can read that here: Of Presidents and Ping Pong.
It occurred to me in reading it over that I left out one important item. I was at the Bisquick Pancake Flipping Breakfast where Gary Bauer fell off the stage, that was my reporting for AP.
Also, just the fact that only 25 years ago, a candidates event involved them making pancakes on a huge stage in a state armory illustrates how far we’ve fallen. Also, it’s super clear that these guys never flipped a pancake in their lives!
Anyway, here’s the AP video of the event and some of the candidates campaigning. If you have the internal fortitude to get through all two and half minutes of it, you’ll notice Bill Bradley. Remember him? He was the basketball player that ran against Al Gore. I just remembered that I also met him and got him to sign my basketball card.
Anyway, just a quick call back for today. Do any of you own any weird presidential swag or memorabilia?
...and I am old enough to remember watching Bill Bradley play for the Knicks, geez.
I had to go look through my button box. Have some protest buttons (Old enough to fight Old enough to Vote), some hope buttons (Peace Now) ( Earth Day) and a bunch of assorted ones. My pride and joy is a large button - John F Kennedy Our Next President (with his photo in the middle.
