Today, let’s keep it simple.
Over the course of the last couple months, I’ve been thrilled and not just a bit surprised at how many of you have subscribed to this tiny digital corner. Day By Day began for a couple reasons:
First, a way to take part in National November Writing Month where I wrote something (anything) each day for 30 days.
Second, a way to move away from Facebook where I’ve grown tired of trying to figure out the algorithms in order to get eyes on my writing.
Third, a way to connect directly with you, the reader, in a more intimate and direct way. You’re here because you wish to be. You can leave whenever you desire to. (Though I hope you won’t!)
And all this has seemed to work. In the new year, as we continue to grow, I’ll add a donation option that will give you a chance to buy me a cup of coffee once a month should the urge prevail. And when we reach a certain level of subscribers, I’ll add a paid subscription option to give readers a little something extra.
Till then, I figured I’d take this opportunity to spread the love a little bit and highlight some of the very fine publications that help me keep the lights on around this house. As some of you may know, I’m a writer, journalist and library director, and for many years I’ve written a regular or semi-regular column for a number of magazines or journals around the country. I’d like to introduce those publications to you today and I hope you go over there and give them a read, a like or even a subscription.
Here’s a few that I’m currently active with: Go Monadnock, Manchester Ink Link, Mount Washington Valley Vibe, New Hampshire Home and Parent Express. Please check them out!
Meantime, if you’d like to browse some of my own books, you can have a look at my book shop here: Dan’s Bookstore.
We’ll get through the rest of this year, and then start anew with a story on Pip, the newest member of our family. I have some thoughts on the latest library news I’d like to share. I still have my eye on writing about homemade ketchup and Little Bean can’t wait to introduce you to a whole bucket of new and weird rocks. If there’s anything you’d like to know about me or my career or, well, just whatever, don’t hesitate to ask.
So, on we go. Have a safe rest of the year, be kind and be fearless. Talk soon!
Hi Dan - don't know if you've considered Patreon, but that's another way to engage more directly with your followers. I'm connected with a number of creators there (mostly musicians but at least one writer), and it seems to work well from my perspective. Happy new year!
