I’m beat. Lyon Mountain ground me down and laughed. To be fair, the mountain gave me a stunning day with beautiful views and let me sit at the summit, alone, for a half hour. Thank you mountain.
But this was one of those hikes, where you come down and everything hurts, and you’re hungry and dehydrated and every stich of clothing is wet and smells bad and there’s just mud everywhere.
You know, a good hike.
Anyway, I found myself at one of those “Country Stores” of the sort with a couple gas pumps and an ice cream cooler. Honestly, I must have looked a fright when I walked in but my body was screaming at me to put food in it.
They had some fried chicken tenders in one of those warming cases on the counter. I selected a cherry Pepsi (because darn it I wanted to reward myself) and then, on a whim, grabbed a package of beef sticks because it was, apparently, dill pickled flavored.
I sat in my car and ate one of those meals that, honestly, you can only eat after wrestling with a mountain. The tenders came with one of those sweet BBQ sauce packets and the beef stick did actually taste like pickles and this meal, man, like seeing Earth from space.
Anyway, that’s it for now - the Adirondacks are taking me for a ride and I need some shut eye to get ready for tomorrow.
PS: I went back in after I ate to bring home some of those tasty tasty pickle beef sticks for the ladies! What is one of your most memorable on the fly meals?
