Today, I’m taking a break to remember someone whom I’ve been proud and humbled to call a friend. On Sunday, only days after his 105th birthday, my friend, George Etzweiler, passed away.
It’s been one of the great honors of my life to call him and his family friends of mine. If you’ll recall, I ran up Mount Washington on George’s team in 2017 when I was writing my book, The White Mountain.
I’ve never met anyone like him and I doubt I ever will.
I’ll write a remembrance for tomorrow’s Day By Day that will include an excerpt from the book. For today, I’m taking a deep breath, keeping myself focused on my family and friends and will make every effort to live in the good humor and dedication that he inspired.
Thank you my friend… 105 is a pretty darn good run.
I am sorry to hear about George, he lived a good life. You are lucky to have gotten to know him. Keep the good memories of him close at hand and in your heart.
So sorry for the loss of your friend. He certainly lived life to the fullest.
