Back in the days leading up to the pandemic, Little Bean embarked on a short lived modelling career. Really! She did! It was kid modeling, you know, Target and toys and that sort of stuff. Through a friend, we landed at a local agency, got some head-shots done and even went down to Rhode Island for an audition for a commercial.
It was fun and interesting and she seemed to get a kick out of it.
Then Covid hit and all that went away.
The reason I thought of that interesting time was because we got a call from my editor at Manchester Ink Link a few days ago. A municipal parks and rec department down in Maryland came across a pic I took of Little Bean in front of a Little Library that they were interested in using.
Turns out the Gaithersburg Parks, Arts and Recreation Corporation has a little library program where they help support and fund little libraries throughout town. Such a wonderful idea. I only wish Manchester would do such a thing!
Anyway, they were looking for a kid to model a little library on their marketing brochure and wouldn’t you know it, guess who they felt fit the bill!
So here we are! The city holds a big Book Festival every May which we were invited to, so now that’s on our list of things to do.
I don’t think the program’s social media listed on the brochure above is active yet, but here’s a link if you’re interested in learning more about the city program: Gaithersburg LFL
When it comes to being a spokesperson, I can’t think of anything that would make me happier than promoting Little Free Libraries. As for Little Bean, she took one look at the brochure mock up and said, “Cool!” Cool, indeed.
Did I read that right, that she actually modelled for Target? A few years ago, I saw a picture in an advertisement of a child who looked just like her. I thought it couldn't be, because wouldn't you have written about it? But, maybe that really was her? Unfortunately, I can't remember where I saw it. Maybe in an L.L.Bean catalog?
Great! And I have as a friend in Gaithersburg (and I have been there) who has twin boys and knows their library well.
