Today, a bit about process. Let’s all take a breather and evaluate where we are.
This is post 90 in a row for Day By Day, and post 197 overall. So, in three days - Saturday - Day By Day will have put out 200 posts in 460 days or one every 2.3 days. Many of you, I’m so grateful to say, have been with us right from the very beginning.
And our subscription base has continued to steadily rise. Thank you for that!
Over the course of the one year and three months that we’ve been producing Day By Day, we’ve narrowed down a few guidelines for ourselves:
Maintain a variety of topics to write about. We understand that we’re sacrificing some readership by not writing about only one thing or one theme, but really we’d get bored otherwise. I’d say there are about half a dozen primary themes though: parenting, music, libraries, books, history and rocks. And we appreciate your suggestions.
Keep things upbeat. This is daily. Some people struggle with daily posts. We don’t want to lose you. So we try to keep things short and tasty, like a morning sip of coffee or a refreshing mint. In some cases, a story is long enough to demand two or three parts. But we try to leave you happy. If you’re getting tired of us, let us know!
It’s all free! While we do encourage and offer subscribers a way to donate (and goodness, so many of you regularly do and we’re so grateful!) the idea here is to maintain a free and open site. Anyone can comment. Anyone can share. There might come a day when we reach 1,000 subscribers where we develop a paid option, bit that’s a ways away.
So, for now as long as we’re talking about process, here’s a pic of Little Bean being an author. As you all likely know, we also maintain an active social media group, NH Rocks That Rock, and list of Rocks That Rock patch and certificate completers. Volume two of our series, Memorial Stones, will come out in February. One of Little Bean’s jobs is to fill out the certificates for those that finish the list and since the beginning she’s insisted on drawing every finisher a personalized piece of art, usually of one of the rocks. Here she is working on a recent batch.
It’s time consuming, as you might imagine, but she insists on doing it and she’s getting to be a better and better artist.
Like I said every artist has their process.
Looking ahead, we’ll keep this up as long as it seems to be welcome and as long as subscriptions continue to rise. To that end, I hope you can help us! Share posts. Tell your friends about Day By Day. Give us suggestions. Like essays you like. Leave comments. Every bit helps.
Did you know, for example, that we have an ongoing leaderboard where you could win prizes by referring Day By Day to your friends? Check that out here: Day By Day Leaderboard.
Coming up - we’ll have something on our trip to visit a shipwreck and much more on the new book as it comes out. Thanks for being here! We appreciate you all very much!
Let’s go!
Music: don't know if you've heard the band Cardinal Black. They are across the pond, Chris Buck is their guitarist and every once in a while puts a solo on FB. If blues speaks to you ...you'd enjoy his playing.
