Boots.
Specifically, rock ‘n roll boots.
There’s an aesthetic here that is often overlooked.
Personally, when I was a rock kid, my go-to footwear was Chucks. But all that’s changed now. Used to be, Chucks were cheap, dingy and uncomfortable, a perfect choice for both the pot-filled, leather-vested front row stank pit of your standard 80s Cinderella show, and equally appropriate for the pink-haired, eye-liner crowd bobbing distractedly at a Til’ Tuesday or Thompson Twins show.
They're still uncomfortable, but cheap…?
Last week, Little Bean scored her first real pair of what she called Official Rock and Roll Boots to wear to shows! She's super proud of them. Thrift store finds, shiny and black, like Doc Martens only with multi-colored rivets and shoelaces! They will look fabulous in conjunction with her home made beads and her own battle-vest.
We were talking about our upcoming AC/DC show in a couple weeks and she had lots of questions. Where are we sitting? (Three rows up, stage right) What will we see? (Everything!) What if it rains? (That makes an AC/DC show better!) Can we get swag? (So, so much!) What does AC/DC mean? (Awesomeness!)
She is disappointed that it appears we won’t be able to meet any band members. I’m still trying! But with two weeks go, hopes are fading. They are just too big a name to bother with little kid interviews! Their loss.
But with a look and enthusiasm like her’s, we’re sure to make new friends anyway. If you’re going to be one of the 60,000 other friends at the show, let us know. We’ll be the ones with the devil horns, black boots and all the attitude.
What were your childhood concert costumes?
Growing up in the 50s and 60s, the only concerts I went to were on Atlantic City boardwalk and the Herman Hermits and the Fours Seasons - LOL. In the 70s different story, but mainly wore bells and a peasant blouse. No recollection of shoes.
