Well, you all certainly came through! I asked for help yesterday in tracking down the origin story of my Fōfers t-shirt and I received emails, text and messenger messages with all sort of links and articles. Good job everyone!
In case you’re wondering what the heck I’m talking about, go and have a look at yesterday’s story. Here’s the link: What the Heck Are the Fōfers?
Historian Dan Rothman used the Internet Archive Wayback Machine to track down the old Fōfers website. Jackie Wood and Brenda Beer shot me links of the old wordpress site the artist used or articles to local papers on the artist.
Christa Snyder tracked down the old CD site where music about the Fōfers used to be available. And a whole bunch of you left comments in the original story with links.
Well done!
But with all good Scooby-Doo mysteries, uncovering some things often leads to further mystery and intrigue.
So, here’s what we know - The Fōfers appears to be a group of furry, multi-colored creatures that live on a special secret island called Fof, off the coast of Maine, where they ride bicycles, row boats and befriend island plants.
Created by artist and musician Shana Berry, info on the Fōfers is all over the digital landscape from about 2009-2012. Berry did shows, events and even had art exhibits around Maine. Then in the mid-20-teens, she just disappeared. Most of the links attached to the archived websites are dead. And all the emails related to the links came back to me as deactivated.
So, my next step, I suppose, would be to reach out to the locations where she had shows and go from there, but I think I’ll leave it at this. I sort of like the idea of Little Bean’s new t-shirt having an air of mystery about it.
If someone asks, we’ll simply say, “Well, some say the fuzzy Fōfers live on a special island off the coast of Maine, but really it’s a big mystery.”
Oh, special sidenote: I mentioned that I assumed I bought the shirt at some local thrift store and I was only half right. My wife reminded me that SHE was the one who found the shirt for me! See, she knows what I like and has a great memory!
Anyway, thanks for your help everybody. If you learn anything else about artist Shana Berry, be sure to let us know.
Love it!!
