This is a story about socks, so move along if that doesn’t appeal to you. Actually, I suppose, it’s a story about priorities. Or maybe being in the moment.
Yeah, that’s it, this is a story about finding comfort and pleasure in the everyday, about learning to appreciate what you have. I’m going with that.
I have this pair of comfortable EMS socks, I usually only wear on the occasions of working out, or hiking. Padded. Warm. Just the best socks.
Only one pair, though. I don’t want to wear them out. I have to be finicky about it.
But yesterday, I had errands to run, yard waste to collect, garbage to take to the curb. I decided - consciously, actively, made a choice - to wear my fancy socks.
I just threw caution to the wind! I mean, I can always get more socks like that. In fact, why don’t I have more socks like that? I could buy six more pairs and literally wear them every day.
Or, maybe the fact that I only have one pair is what makes them special. Do I really deserve that level of special every day?
Am I spending too much time thinking about socks? I am, aren’t I?
Anyway, I wore them and that made all the difference. Life is short. Don’t hold back. Wear the fancy socks.
What will you do today to find a bit of happiness in the everyday?
Tomorrow, Chapter Seven of “Where There’s Smoke” will drop! We hope you’ve been enjoying this hiking memoir so far, with a new chapter coming out each Wednesday. Can you guess what Fire Tower we’re hiking to tomorrow based on this picture?
Today, I wore one of my t-shirts with Minions on it. Those little yellow characters make me smile, and the weather has been so dreary this spring that I've starting wearing bright colors and fun outfits to boost my mood. For the same reason, I wore a bright pink dress on Sunday.
Today for my happiness: I will wake up breathing (a prerequisite) and at some point I will enjoy some ice cream!!
