Today, a quiz and maybe some help!
Our good friend Chris stopped by the old homestead the other day to give us a drum lesson. Well, more of a very very basic tutorial on what the heck to do with my daughter’s latest interest. Yes, that’s right. Drums.
Long story short, a co-worker was looking for a good home for her son’s old drum set. We sent it over to one of Uma’s friends. That friend lost interest so I grabbed them, but before finding a new home, Uma decided she’d give drums a go.
So Chris, who is in metal band of his own called Earth Dies Screaming (yes, that’s the band name) showed us how to assemble the kit, what each piece was named and what it did and gave us some pointers on how to move forward.
The kit is set up in our sun room (so very sorry to all our neighbors) and ready to go. There’s just one thing. We are missing two pieces to complete the set. We had to be schooled about what those pieces are, but now we know!
Now it’s your turn. Is anybody here a drummer? Let’s make a game out of it! Do you know what those missing pieces are based on the shot above? Can you help us find those two pieces for cheap. And when I say cheap, I mean old, covered in dust up in somebody’s attic cheap!
The name of the co-worker’s son’s band was Pinball Junkies and Uma decided that name is just fine for her non-existent band.
Where will this go? Will it engender the same dedication as her piano? Don’t know. But if she’s excited and into it, then we’ll help facilitate. And now you can help as well!
What do you say, Day By Dayers, help us complete our kit!
You need a snare drum...the most important part of the drum kit along with the bass drum! Think AC/DC. The beat is held by the bass drum on the 1 and 3, and the snare drum on the 2 and 4 of the count of 1,2 ,3 ,4. Also need a pair of hi-hat cymbals and the stand to hold them. Unfortunately, all of this is quite costly nowadays. I'm not really playing my kit much these days, so I'd be glad to donate what I have.
Not a drummer, but have hung out on enough stages to see the lack of snare and hi-hat. Female drummers are relatively rare, but if she can keep a steady beat and enjoys it, I think it would be awesome for her!
