And so, we begin this final day of our month-long Day By Day writing bonanza with a confession - I had to look up how to spell thirtieth. I can’t remember ever actually writing that out. Huh. Well… anyway…
As I have so many times over the years, I conclude the final day with thank yous and a big reveal, my gift to all of you for sticking around long enough to get to this last post and to humor my worst and perhaps best inclinations.
My youngest daughter over the years has entertained, as kids do, all manner of interests and hobbies - My Little Ponies, stuffed animals, puzzle making, ballet, you get the idea. And all through it, as I did with my other daughter, I try to simply facilitate the interest and see what happens. We learn a little. Have some fun. And then, usually, the next thing comes up and we move on.
But not rocks.
For whatever reason, all things geologic have stuck with her, from boulders to fossils to gems to sea glass. Rock collecting has stuck, and with every new stone, every new kid books on crystals, the interest seems to get deeper. And so my wife had a good idea, as she often does. You’re a writer, she said. Write a book about it with her. And so we did - NH Rocks That Rocks, the original field guide to 25 famous NH Boulders came out last year. The guide, along with a patch and certificate for reaching all the rocks have been a hit and our social media community has reached into the thousands! You can come join us here: FB Rocks Patch Quest.
And now, it’s time for volume two! Little Bean and I are thrilled and proud to present, More NH Rocks That Rock: Memorial Stones. We continue our journey near and far around NH, learn a bit of history, visit some weird rocks, and we want to take you with us! Below is the cover. The book will be published in April 2023 and by clicking above or below the picture you can reserve your copy now.

Coming up later in 2023, NH Rocks That Rock: Oddities and then in 2024 NH Rocks That Rock: Gravestones.
So we shall also continue rocking and rolling right here at Day By Day. To be fair, I’m going to take a tiny break now, re-evaluate how often it seems reasonable to post, develop some kind of subscription plan for you hard core groupies and I’ll be back at it then. So, Day By Day, might go from literally every day, to being about our Day To Day lives.
(An aside: Does anyone know what the common factor was all month with the reflection sub-titles?)
Meantime, dear reader, what more can I say? If you’ve been with me all along this month, is there a topic that has resonated with you more than any other? I doubt I’ll regulate this newsletter to JUST ONE SUBJECT because that would be dreadfully boring to me, but I am interested in what you’re interested in.
And so, life spins on, and each day we try to find just a bit of color or awe or inspiration to get us to the next. I’ll keep writing. You keep reading. Let’s see what we can do. Onward!
I favored "Methinks I Have Astronomy" (17?) - not because of anything mentioned specifically, but because of the journey in general....
Shakespeare!
