From the Introduction of More NH Rocks That Rock: Memorial Stones-
“Make no mistake – part of the reason why New Hampshire’s Memorial Stones get lost in the shuffle is because next to their oversized cousins like Madison Boulder or touristy sites like the Chicken Farmer Rock, a mere plaque on a regular looking stone is easy to miss.
“We aim to change that.
“The important part of visiting Memorial Stones, you see, is not the hike or the size. Rather, we want you to come away from each visit with a new insight, a bit of history and a deeper appreciation for how we’ve arrived at where we are.
“Within these pages, you’ll learn about founding fathers, old roads, forts, Black Heritage, heroes and villains and, in one case, a famous cannonball. In Bartlett, you’ll visit a stone that once was a cliff that two illustrious men had to lower a horse over. On another stop, you’ll learn about a vice-president that wanted nothing to do with his hometown of Farmington. Finally, in the backwoods of Roxbury you’ll visit a stone that commemorates a ghost town.”
Friends, Little Bean and I are so proud - and somewhat relieved - that the new field guide has a front and back cover and is about to be shipped off to the printer! This one went through a series of backfires and delays, but it will soon be on the shelves!
More NH Rocks That Rock: Memorial Stones will be my tenth book and Little Bean’s second. As promised, we’re revealing the full cover right here, exclusively for you our wonderful subscribers who have been with us here at Day By Day for this past year plus. You helped us name rocks, cheered us on, humored our silly rock stories and sent us pictures.
So, as a thank you, let’s have a contest and give away a couple books! Here are the rules - bring us ten new subscribers and BOOM you get a free book personally inscribed from myself and Little Bean. Or, in the comments or via email tell us what is your favorite rock and we’ll enter you to win a book. Easy! Sound good? Here’s a link to our leaderboard to keep track of referrals! In the meantime, many thanks to all of you that have already pre-ordered a copy of the book. Here’s a link where you can do that if you like: Pre-Order More NH Rocks That Rock.
There are other ways to be involved and have fun! For example, we have an active and engaged Facebook Community, nearly 40 of whom have completed the Patch Quest from the first book. Little Bean is working hard on designing the patch and completion certificate for this new book as well. If you do Facebook, why not join us over there, here’s that link: Facebook Rocks That Rock.
And finally, should you like to look at our bookstore and check out our other titles, we can help ya with that! Here’s a link to that: Dan’s Bookstore.
Ok, enough about all those links! We’ll return to our regularily scheduled topics tomorrow. Until then, please share this post to spread the word and of course tell us what you think. And tell us about your favorite rocks! On we go!
