Today, as promised, a bit of the behind the scenes story of Little Bean’s Rock Patch Quest design work. As many of you know, my daughter, with some digital help from her Uncle Bob, is the designer of the two patches (so far) of our Rocks Field Guides. These are the patches completers can earn upon tagging the 25 rocks around the state of New Hampshire in each of the books: Famous Rocks and Memorial Stones.
For our latest, Memorial Stones, Little Bean was adamant about two things in the design. First, the winter trees because she wanted to make it clear that these were Memorial Stones that were accessible year round! In a couple cases you may have to brush the snow off, but you can get there!
The other one, for some reason was the splotches of moss on the rocks. In her head, all the stones and rocks out there have moss, plus moss feels nice when you touch it. So, she didn’t want any of you to miss the moss on the rocks.
I like the brighter colors she used in this patch and also the fact that the rock itself looks like a sitting cat from behind. What do you all think?
We’ve already had our first patch earner, Priscilla Merrill, and several others are on their way! If you’d like to learn more about the Patch Quest and either of the books, click here to join our FB community: NH Rocks That Rock
We can’t wait for completers to begin sending in their completion sheets! Let’s get rocking!
Adorable.
