Some days, a hike to a fire tower is unremarkable. I make it up, take notes and readings, get back down.
Other days… well…
Today, at Overlook Mountain in Woodstock, NY, was one of those days.
Ready? Deep breath… here goes.
A lady fell and injured herself at the tower and on my way down I ran across a dehydrated kid with no water so I gave him my water but was exhausted myself by the time I got down but I was blocked in the trailhead parking area by emergency vehicles so I walked across the street to a Buddhist monastery where a monk gave me water and let me sit in on a prayer session and now I’m sitting in a Stewart’s smelling like sweat and incense eating pizza and a milkshake.
Along the way I walked through haunted hotel ruins. Oh, and a guy told me a story about Tiny Tim and the Titanic.
So how’d your day go?
Starting tomorrow I am obviously going to be writing about all of this. What a day!
Stay tuned!
You just never know what the day will bring...
Wow! That's a lot for one hike! I'm especially interested in reading about your stop at the monastery.
