I was reminded today that two years ago, the above story was published in NH Magazine as a preview of mine and Little Bean’s upcoming New Hampshire Fire Tower Field Guide.
Two years ago. *sigh*
I get asked all the time when that’s coming out and, well, I’m here to tell you that sometimes, not every project works out! I don’t think the full book is going to happen, and lots of things have changed since then for a field guide to be of any value anyway.
However, the full section on mine and Little Bean’s hikes to all the towers IS completed. I think it’s something like 14 or 15 chapters. Excerpts from those chapters have been published here or there.
So let me take this anniversary to ask you and let’s have a discussion about maybe publishing them little by little right here? Maybe one a week? (Fire Tower Friday?) Maybe offering them only to subscribers for a small fee? Maybe collecting them in a digital book?
Is this something you all may have an interest in? It was a lovely adventure, and the writing is similar in tone to “The Adventures of Buffalo and Tough Cookie.”
Tell us what you think and let’s figure out a way to bring it to light!
Maybe Fire Tower Friday here, then collect them into a digital book? Maybe with some extra material available only in the book, to entice people to buy it? That would put the chapters all in one place for anyone who would want to complete the hikes themselves. (Also, I'm still available to edit. My job at the park is only part-time.)
I love the idea of fire tower Friday!!
