Waaaaay back on April 16, 2014, I had just returned from a trip on the road doing a book presentation and my wife was waiting for me with an Easter basket, kind of.
Awwww, I thought, what a nice thing to come home to. There was some chocolate and maybe a flower and a book. The book was “The Everything Father-To-Be Book: A Survival Guide for Men.”
I thought this was great! That day was also the birthday of Aaron and Janelle, the twins in our lives, and they’d soon be turning into teenagers and Lord knows I could use all the help I could get!
“No, dummy,” my wife said, “it’s for you because YOU are going to be a new dad!”
Little Bean was on her way! And the fact that I learned that on the same day as the birthday of the other two, makes April 16 something of a watershed day for me. I don’t write enough these days about my other two ‘kids’ though maybe I should. The fact that they are grown adults now and leading their own lives has something to do with it of course. That and I already wrote a whole book about it, also kind of.
But they paved the way. They came into our lives when they were eight and I always thought that meant I’d know everything about daddying once Little Bean turned that age. Clueless, I’m totally clueless.
Anyway, there’s another important date only a few days away. April 21. Look for that on Monday.
Meantime, is there a date in your life where things just seem to happen, one particular number on the calendar that has changed your life over and over? Let us know!
