I drove 80 miles, round trip, today, all to experience 30 seconds.
Little Bean’s second piano recital, Halloween themed, took place in an old Baptist church in Hampton Falls. Dozens of kids took part so the church was packed. It was easily the largest crowd she had ever played for.
She dressed as a woodland fairy and played a song called “Fuzzy’s Halloween.” The song lasted about 30 seconds, she bowed and we were done.
I have a lot of feels about this musical journey she’s on: about how she’s outpacing me, about how fearless (for some reason) she is in front of people, about how she’s learning discipline and fellowship, and about how music can change your life.
And if her getting all that requires that I drive her 80 miles so she can have less than a minute in a fairy costume, playing a Halloween song in front of a crowd of people in a historic church, well, then, that seems like a fair deal.
ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY WEEK: Just a heads up that this is our one year anniversary week. On Friday, it will officially have been one year (366 days, it was a Leap Year) that we wrote a daily missive here at Day By Day. We’ve accomplished so much! I’m not certain what will happen on Nov. 1, but I do know that we want to give all you subscribers something special. Maybe a signed PDF doc? Maybe a coupon to our bookstore? Not sure yet. Stay tuned. Until then, we’re only a couple dozen subscribers from 500. Can you help us reach out goal? Please tell your friends and family and share away!
The fact that she's fearless in front of other people is, I think, wonderful! Without feelings of self-consciousness, and with acceptance of herself and her appearance, she's going to be able to try and accomplish so much more than us wallflowers.
Look at the smile on that kid! Worth the trip just for that!!
